1979 GMC Jimmy 4×4 with a 350 need help with after market parts?
I have a 1979 GMC Jimmy 4×4 with a 350 i was wondering what should to to the engine to boost up HP and Torque I really want more power out of it because im getting a 6" lift and 37" tires and want more power to push them I know a new Carburator would make sense just not sure what kind or what else i could do. I would like to stick to replacement parts and bolt ons i dont want to have to pull the engine. I was also thinking about lower gears but im insure. all help and comments are appreciated
Im going to change the gears before i put the lift and tires on but i really want to feel more power out of the engine and boost the speed up so i can keep up with some of the cars on the road instead of having them fly by me
Changing the gears sounds like a must then that will be the first thing i do but i will still want to get more power out of it how else can do that

yeah go with changing gears first and see if you need more power. my first k5 blazer had 35s and i later put on 38s the thing was so friggin slow. i come to find out it had 273 gears which is the worst gear you can possibly get. i found a set of 373 axles and put those under and the power about doubled.
so if you got some 273, change to like a 411 or 456 and that will help a ton
Lower gears will do more for you than trying to up the HP on the engine. To go from 31"s (usually stock for 4wd) to 37"s is a big increase and would kill your trans if you dont do a gear change. Here are a couple other forums more specific to 73-87 (91) body styles.
