2000 Ford Ranger 4×4?

I am looking into buying a truck this year and am unsure about what to do. It seems to be everything I am looking for, but I have looked into ratings of the MPG of this truck and it seems to be a gas guzzler. I currently have a Nissan Sentra and it gets about 30 MPG. I have a commute of about 30 miles each way, 4x a week. I would like to buy a truck bc I have always wanted one but I have read reviews that it has bad fuel economy – 14-16 but some say 21-25. Any advice? Any other small trucks out there that do well with gas? Reviews? Thank you 🙂

My cousin has a 2006 Chevy Colorado Sport 4X4 that gets about 26 MPG on the highway. I have a 2008 Chevy Tahoe Z71 and it gets about 20 MPG on the highway. Both are fairly nice (though his Colorado can only hold 2 people (single cab) and do exceptional off road.

If you decide to purchase the Ranger 4X4 and plan on going off road, I would check to be sure that you can activate the four wheel drive from inside the cab as opposed to the locking hub four wheel drive. If you don’t plan on going off road, you may want to consider a two wheel drive which gets better milage and is bettter on insurance. Good luck, I hope you find the truck of your dreams

I have a 95 ford ranger extended cab 2 wheel drive 4 cylinder I get 10 km/L or 23.52 MPG. A 4 wheel drive 6 cylinder would use a lot more gas so 14-16 MPG would not be unreasonable for a 6 cylinder 4 wheel drive. 6 cylinders are gas hogs compared to 4 cylinders.

dont buy a 4 wheel drive ( if it has big tires they use even more gas.),,more things break and more $ to repair. and why in the world would you want a car that getspoor mpg now days? that would 60$ a week to go to work. not counting the other driving. so 60+25+85times 4 =340$ per month for gas ..how many days will you have to work,, to buy the gas to go to work . ???

I had a 2001 FX4 4×4 ranger 5 spd 4.10 gears with a 4.0 V6. It was getting around 16-17 mostly in town with a 31 inch tire probably a little better on the highway. Running gears make a big difference as well as motors on mpg.
