I know several people that have 2000 jeep Cherokees and never had a problem with them. Here is a great site for reviews on cars. They have tens of thousands of reviews and lots for the grand Cherokee. Remember that the 2000's were the same as a 93-99, but had a little different styling and such. If it has the straight six, buy it. This has to be one of the most reliable engines ever. They have incredible low end torque and I believe that jeep still uses the original 1940's "willy's jeep" engine block. My bro has a 93 with 200000 miles on it and still running strong, he just did the head gasket on it and replaced the starter and cv joint. You wont be disapointed with a jeep though, I guarantee it. Good luck on whatever you choose! http://carsurvey.org/
i own a repair shop, and i,ll tell you all i know about them,,so far ,all i have seen them give problems with it transmissions ,,and heating problems,,the heaters seem to stop working in them,,other than that they all are like regular vehicles,,they give the normal problems,,but don't let the dealers fool you ,if you mention the transmission thing to them, they,ll just shrug it off,and say they have never heard of the problem,,before,,they have,,because i repair a lot of them for some of the dealers around where my shop is,,other than that there one of the best 4 wheel drive vehicles money can buy,but do this,,take it to a mechanic and have them look it over real good before you buy it,,better to be safe than sorry ,,especially with paying out several grand which i know you are for this one,,good luck with it,,i hope this help,s.

I own a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4×4 and it has been great. I have not had any problems with it. The only thing that I have had issues with is a small leak in my A/C condensor which is nothing abnormal. I love this vehicle. The off road capabilites are wonderful with Jeep, which makes the best 4×4 in my opinion.
I am a mechanic in a Jeep dealership some of the more common problems with the Grand Cherokee are fuel pumps quitting, rear differential side bearings wearing out, evaporator cores leaking, drag link ends getting loose, rear main seals on the 4.0L inline six leaking, thermostat housing/and water pump leaks on the 4.0L inline six,i have seen a few transmissions give out, and i have seen problems with the transfer cases from time to time.
If you do decide to purchase this vehicle have it thouroughly checked out by a mechanic you trust and if you do purchase it write the VIN number down and have it checked by a Jeep dealer to see if any and all recalls have been completed.
