My Jeep Liberty was stolen this weekend in St. Louis (I'm from Memphis!). The local police said that Jeep Libertys are very easy to steal. The thief just threw a brick through my back window, popped my steering column, then started my car with a screwdriver. This also happened to me about a year ago in Memphis – the car I had then was a 1992 Jeep Cherokee. I feel stupid that I bought yet another Jeep, thinking that a newer model would be harder to steal. The car salesman that sold me my '04 specifically told me that the car couldn't be stolen because there is a computer chip in the key, and only that key can start the car. Obviously he lied to me.
So what do I do? I love this '04 Jeep Libery, but it seems to be a huge car theft target. Any advice on how to secure it? Alarm systems, clubs? Help!
