Anyone own a small 4×4 SUV?

I'm looking into buying a used smallish 4×4 SUV next month and I'm interested to hear any suggestions. Do you own one that you love or hate? Or know anyone that does? I want decent gas mileage, and big enough to seat 5 people without cramming them in.

I have a 2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport. I have a love hate relationship with it. I love the good gas millage (24 MPG) The back row isn't the most comfortable back row in the smaller SUV category. But I got it because it was compact, I do search and rescue and the areas I'm at smaller was better than bigger. It handles great in snow, mud, dirt, sand, etc. You name it it can go through it. The other nice thing is with most vehicles you have to wait for the 4×4 to pop into place. With the Jeeps you pull the handle up and its in.

I wouldn't recomend any jeep past 2001. They have went downhill. Its all really cheap, theres my two cents worth.

just bought a hyundai santa fe… LOVE IT

it has a 10 yr, 10000 mile Powertrain warranty, and a 6 yr 70000 mile bumper to bumper.

It handles well and love the body style.
I get 23.6 MPG to it. YOu can expect an average of 23 MPG for a SUV

I have a 97 Honda CRV with 158,000 miles. It still runs great, gets great gas mileage, 23 mph around town and up to 30 on the highway. I have only had to put $100 into it.

I have a BMW X3. I love it. It is very reliable, peppy and gets compliments everyday. Also, BMW puts amazing warranties on their cars. I get about 27mpg on Mid Grade on mixed driving, mostly highway. It can comfortable fit 4, but 5 would be fine if one ins't large. It was just rated the safest car in its class. The only thing I could really complain about is the cup holders. They are misplaced and kind of small. If you are interested and willing to spend a little more cash, look at the 2007 Model or upgrade to the X5 because it is also a great car. It also comes in manual if you want that.

Subaru Forester is a good solid reliable economical smaller SUV. Low maintenance, good MPG. They also have a very high safety rating.
