Can a 4×4 Jeep Liberty 2007 tow a Hyundai Sonata 2010?

My husband is insisting that it will tow it but I’m worried that it is too heavy for the Jeep to tow it completely and not mess an important part up, such as the ripping the bumper off, or something of the sort. I would appreciate any incite on anyone who would know about this, with experience with similar vehicles would be better.

The tow rating varies from model to model and also depends on what packages that you have purchased. You also have to consider tongue weight in addition to the trailer wight.

Even if the ratings are within the parameters that you need, it still may not be wise to tow such a heavy load with a smaller SUV. You have to consider the amount of power you need to safely accelerate, the breaking power you need to safely stop, the longevity of you engine and suspension parts, and the stability of the car.

It would be more appropriate to tow with a properly equipped 1/2 ton pickup or even a 3/4 ton diesel, depending on how often you tow and the terrain.
