Can you own an ex military 5/4 ton diesel 4×4 pickup in california?

im planning on getting an 85 military pickup. i was just wondering what problems i would run into while getting it registered and insured in the state of california. i would also like to know the pros and cons of getting one of these trucks. How good is the 24 volt system in these trucks? is there any way to make it 12 volt instead?

There are many retired military CUCV trucks, blazers, and Deuces on the road in California, and may states.

Yes, the 24 volt, system can be converted, but there are volumes of information available on how to keep the 24 volt system in perfect shape.

http://www.steelsoldiers.com is an invaluable resource for anyone who owns and ex military vehicle. Chock full of all the information you would ever want to know about your truck-check it out. They have forums dedicated to each model, and there are tutorials on how to everything.

There is also pirate4x4.com, a couple vendors on there are based out of California and sell nothing but ex military equipment and vehicles-maybe you could contact them if you have any specific questions for CA.

One of the vendors (hundred dollar man), has his own site- http://www.100dollarman.com/

    Good luck and have fun!
