Ford or Jeep Cherokee 4×4 *project cheap truck*?

I am looking to to a cheap 4×4 project truck. I am totally a Ford man but the Cherokee don’t look bad when done up. Basicly it comes down to cost. Right now I am looking at either a 1993 Ford F-150 ext cab flareside or a 89 Jeep Cherokee, actually I hate dodges but if its cheaper .. well ya know. So I would like to know what would be the cheaper vehicle to build up. these are the things I want to do or curious about

whats easier with less cost to fit 33"-35" tires *33" most likely* nicely

Interchangeability of parts

who has cheaper parts of aftermarket offroad accessories *Suspension/body lift*,flare kits, engine, drivetrain upgrades

Also to keep in mind I do all my own work, no shop costs will be involved unless I had to machine parts.

If you’re looking at cost, I’d stick with the Jeep. More aftermarket parts are available for them than any other following.

I know, I wanted an FJ Cruiser but ended up with a ’92 YJ Wrangler because of availability of parts and accessories.

If you’re doing most of your own work or own fabrication, then it’s not as big an issue.

There are a buttload of YJs out there, but I still haven’t found one that quite looks like mine. So you can still make it unique if you think about what you want to put on it or mods.

My only regret is that I got rid of the original springs when I lifted it…now I’d like to do a Spring-over conversion to allow more lift and larger tires. I’ll have to make some time available to scour the junk yards for OEM Springs. Good luck in whatever you decide, either way you go you’ll still be happy! 😉

look at LMC truck, they have great part catalogs. look at some old blazers and broncos, cheap and fun, and more unique than the jeeps
