Read the manual or ask the dealership. I think these people above are mistaken. Escape is an all wheel drive, with a 4×4 system which can be engaged at any time, probably up to speeds of 45 mph. But don’t engage when front wheels are spinning, (ie you’re stuck) Best for wet, snow or icey traction. For better fuel economy, run in 4×2 ( front wheel drive, when traction is not an issue.) There is no low 4×4 system due to it being a car based vehicle verses an offroad vehicle like a Jeep.

just push the button as your parked or dirving it dosent really matter beacsue its a switch but dont go much higher then 45-50 with it in 4X4 it might ruin something

the best yaw to find out is to look at the book that came with the car . u can put it in 4×4 y going under 25 mph but macke sure u put it in 4×4 hi and not 4×4 low low is used to go a short disteance and can tare up the car use it only to get unstuck and oly put it in low y u r stoped and in nurtal 4×4 hi is for driving in snow and ice or off road and to drive a long distance

You can put it in 4×4 while driving, but any mechanic will tell you to stop the car (you can leave it in gear), and then flip the switch, wait a second and then you’re good to go.

As far as 4×4 HI…you can just push the button at any time know matter how fast you’re going. you will use this the most. 4×4 LOW is for off-roading and rough terrain i.e. mudding. I know this because my husband is a mechanic and I own a 4×4 (explorer).
