I have a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4×4 V6 and my MPG is 13?

I have a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4×4 V6 and my mileage per gallon is usually around 13 miles per gallon. What can I do to improve this number?
When I purchased the car it was averaging 17 or 18 MPG. Now its averaging 13 (which is completely ridiculous).

The method of calculating the mileage could be the problem. If you are using the on board computer that tells you the mpg, it will only be accurate if it is reset every time you fill up. If not, it is calculating mpg over many number of tanks. If you are doing it the old-fashioned way and dividing the number of miles traveled and the number of gallons put it, this will be more accurate. True, this vehicle will not get good mileage being a 4×4, and being a V6 actually hurts the mpg because it takes more fuel to power the smaller motor to move the vehicle. It is possible an O2 sensor may be going bad, that is one thing that can pull down fuel economy.

one problem is that the jeep motors are complete shit and the reason for the horrible gas mileage is that the intake and exhaust are on the same side. If you were looking for gas mileage then you bought the wrong car.
