Late 80’s Ford… 4×2 to 4×4 swap. How bad and how many parts?

Hello, I got an 89 Ford F150 2wd short bed truck which has that high boy stance. Very good condition. I have put enough money work and parts in it that I trust it more than my newer one. I can buy a 89 ford F150 4×4 long bed with no title and bad head gasket for parts. How hard would it be to swap my truck with the 4×4 parts? I know of course the trans, transfer case, front axle and drive shaft. What else? Is it worth it? I know I could trade it for a 4×4 but I love my truck and it is very reliable.

well its not that hard most everything will bolt right up and since you have a doner truck that makes it even better are both trucks same in engine and trans because if one has 5.8 auto and the is 460 parts will not work if both have 4.9 or 5.0 or 5.8 all is good keep track of everything and good luck

Like talking to the guy standing on a ledge 10 stories up, "dont do it!" That is so much work, by the time you are through the truck will be worth 2500 dollars. Your hundreds of hours of work will be worth about 10 dollars per hour. Busted knuckles are 10 dollars each. And you have one truck's worth of left over parts to cart away. If you want to see the value added by your work , start with something that has a better cash or historical value in the end. I have a similar F150 and I want 4WD, too, but I am going to work a little harder at my regular job and trade up.
Now, there is no substitute for the emotional value of a family vehicle and for that reason, I might say, "go ahead jump" but if you think you are getting a bargain, you are not.
