Should I get a 4×4 pickup or just a 2wd?

I am thinking about buying a ford ranger pickup either 4 or 2 wd. Not sure which I want. I like to try and go to the beach and ride on it at least once a year, but I don’t always make it, haven’t been in a while either. Other than that, I don’t do a whole lot with it. But I like the height of a 4×4. I don’t no what I should do, someone help. Would a 2wd drive work just as good?

Here’s what I would do, if you drive anywhere and risk the possibility of getting stuck, I would get a 4wd. I bought one when I lived in MI!

Well if you’re going with rough terrain, get four wheel drive.
I have a Chevy S10 that’s 4×4 and it still slips a little bit. Keep in mind, the back end has much less weight than the front. So if your back wheels get stuck with 2wd then you’re screwed..

You need to think about maintenance on a 4wd, repairs on those babies can be a real nightmare. If you only want to ride on the beach once a year it would be cheaper to rent a 4wd for a day or two and get a 2wd Ranger for the other 363 days of the year.

4×4 offroad is not the only use for 4 wheel drive. ranger that’s the one with the locking axle pin. So disengage the pin for 2 wheel drive, engage in bad weather and beach and desert.

If you don’t mind less gas mileage, extra maintenance and higher repair costs you should get the 4×4 (more insurance costs). But, if you only use it once a year to ride in the sand and don’t want all the hassles with a 4×4, buy the 2 wheel drive and rent a quad for the few days that you will need it in the sand.
