Should the fan on a 4×4 jeep grand cherookee always be running?

My Jeep was overheating and I replaced the thermostat. Everything was ok for about a month. Than it overheated again. I notice that when it overheats the fan comes on. Other wise the fan was not on. Is there a problem with the fan.

No the fan only comes on when the temp is high,
coud be your radiator needs back flushing to clear any silt out of it.

Your fan is probably controlled by a seperate thermostat device. It should come on before the engine overheats and then shut down when engine temp is cooler. Find this device and replace it or see if it’s adjustable.

Probably when you changed the thermostat, which probably didn’t need changing, and you filled the radiator up, then it worked correctly. Now a month later, your little leak has caused the coolant level to get low once again, but this time you want to blame the fan.
Try keeping a closer watch on your fluid levels, it’s your responsibility as the car owner to check things like the fluid levels.
