What grade gas should I put in my 2001 Jeep Cherokee 4×4?

I just got it last week, has 112,800 miles. Never owned a jeep. I’ve filled it up with Plus. I want to keep this thing running at it’s best. Also I don’t know when it had the oil changed last. Someone suggested flushing that and transmission fluid. Is that overkill??

i would definatly go ahead and change the transmission fluid, and the oil, and the rear end and front end gear oil. most people dont ever do that, and it will keep the drivetrain in tip top shape. I normally use midgrade, plus wont hurt it, try to stay away from the low grade gas as i’ve tore apart several motors that all they used was cheap gas and it will build up a sludge/grime on the pistons. Good luck with your jeep.

flushing the transmission would be pretty good thing to do, but use10w40 oil anf regular unleaded gas

87 octane regular gas is all you need. Anything more and you will be wasting you money.

Change the oil, transmission fluid, transfer case fluid, differential fluids (front and rear), lube the chassis, and check the rest of the fluids and test the coolant. Nothing is overkill. Unless you have records saying that these have been changed, do it (you’re most likely due for it anyway). The Cherokee takes 10W-30, as stated in the owner’s manual. As for gas, name brand (higher quality fuels with additives) 87 octane fuel will do you just fine. I would do the Seafoam ritual with two cans right before changing the oil, it will clean up the engine nicely (look it up). Again, nothing is overkill when taking care of your vehicle.

    Hope this helps!

I have a jeep Cherokee 93 and i have been using mid-grade gas, but out here with the Bay area gas prices I now am running regular and the jeep runs fine on that. I have 260K mi, and still running strong.
