what kind of SUV 4×4 would you buy for around $17000 2006 or newer?

I kinda have my mind set on a Jeep commander, but what are some other options, i have read bad things on the commanders so i am curious what else is out there!

A Ford Escape is a great vehicle. We just bought our 05 for 10000. so with 17000 you should be able to get a 06 or newer

I’d buy a Toyota 4-Runner. There are plenty of them around so should you have to find parts or mechanics who can correctly repair them it won’t be difficult. They are more reliable than anything that Jeep makes and perform just as well on and off road as any Jeep. Don’t just take my word for it. Do a bit of research on sites like edmunds.com, consumerreports.com or cars.com about reliability and resale value. Never buy a car without test driving it and at least a few competitors.

I hope you find the right vehicle!

You can try the Hyundai Tucson or Santa FE. Also a Nissan murano.

I would shy away from the Ford Models of SUVs. I personnally and know others that have had bad luck with used Ford SUV. But Chevrolet’s models seem to have a better built SUV.

A Jeep Commander with a 5.7L HEMI engine is NOT unreliable or in any way low quality–do not be fooled by all the people who say they’re bad–many of them have never owned one and are talking blindly because of things they’ve seen, not experienced. I have had an excellent experience with my 2006 Jeep Commander. It’s never had any problems, and is approaching 100K. It does the best on snow and ice of any vehicle I’ve driven. The 3.7L is not as good as the 5.7L HEMI, but still is not terrible. I would seriously consider buying one if that’s the kind of vehicle you want. Other reliable, yet inexpensive vehicles are Dodge Durango, Ford Explorer, and Ford Expedition. You may have seen bad things about Durangos from the Chrysler-hating idiots, but if you read the dozens of consumer reviews on http://www.edmunds.com, you may change your mind. I have a 2004 Durango SLT 4.7L with nearly 200K, never had any problems! Here is a link to the consumer reviews for a Commander or Durango.

    Commander: http://www.edmunds.com/jeep/commander/2006/consumer-reviews.html?sorting=OVERALL_RATINGS

Personal experience is what counts! Good luck! 🙂
