What vehicle tows >9000lbs, carries 6+ passengers, runs on diesel, but is not a pickup truck?

We need something to haul us, our four kids, and our big travel trailer on long vacations. So far, all we can find is used Ford Excursions, or GMC Suburbans. Any one know of anything else, new or used, that would work? Anything but a pickup truck would be a welcome suggestion.

It’s impractical, but the Hummer H1 can haul 9000 lbs, runs on diesel, and is not a pickup. Depending on the interior configuration, it can seat up to six adults.

Any reason you want to limit yourself to diesel? Diesel is more expensive than gasoline these days, and with the new rules going into effect for the low sulfur type, it will go up even more.

If you are looking new, make up a list of your requirements and hit the dealers and ask just what Ford and GM can do for you. Try the same in the foreign ones too.

Somewhere there is one with your name on it. Good luck in your search.

Why don’t you buy a Peterbilt or a Mack?

    How about a motorhome?

We’ve been looking for something similar. We cannot find anything other than a pick-up truck though. I will watch this question closely to see if you find anything! If not, I must say that we found the Dodge Mega-Cab to be very roomy. We have two kids in car seats, plus a quickly growing teen-age boy that fit in the back seat comfortably. Then, we put our pre-teen daughter in the front with us. We haven’t purchased this vehicle yet, as we’re still waiting for the Toyota Tundra to come out in "mega-size." If we have to settle on a pick-up truck, we want to make sure we like it quite a bit and have gone over all of the options.

The Ford Excursion is just about the only SUV that meets your needs. It can tow 11,000 lbs. It’s a huge hulking behemoth on the road. It has a 6L Diesel Engine that makes 560 lb-ft of torque and it seats 8

i believe the ford excursion is the answer, but remember ford is not manufacturing excursions no more,

The Ford Excursion is probably your best bet – we have one in our family and it has been perfectly reliable, great for long trips with the entertainment system, and is big enough to haul the fishing boat, gear, and provide sleeping room for camping.

Chevrolet now puts the Duaramax availible in their Express Vans. Visit a dealer who deals with Conversion van Companies like explorervan.com who can convert a 155" wheel base 2500 or 3500 van which will carry up to 9 passengers and are very nice on the inside as well as exceed your towing needs. This is about your only option with out taking the RV route. The new Suburban has no diesel availible and they are not making the Excursion anymore. Good Luck
