What you else needs to be changed out if I am changing out ac compressor on my 1996 chevy pickup?.. Can I just change the compressor out and not have to replace accumulator or orifice? I seen some places not warranty compressor if you do not change out accumulator or orifice so is the required or a normal change out when compressor is replaced?

you dont have to but most places wont give you a warranty unless you buy the orifice tube and the drier, it’s just a way for them to make more money.

Like other post stated for warranty purposes they require you to replace the accumulator which is not a bad idea considering the age, if the condesant material in the accumulator break it can clog and possibly ruin the compressor. You don’t have to replace it however if it fails within the 1 or 2 yrs your out another few hundred bucks for voiding the warranty.Either way make sure you have a shop charge it, when you open the lines moisture can get in and will need to be removed by a recycling machine this will prevent lines from freezing and frosting over in the future.

My auto parts store always requires me to buy the accumulator to get the warranty, it’s a good idea to change it with a new compressor and easy to get at. The O-tube is a $4 part so why not get it? When you change these components you also need to replace some PAG oil. To determine the amount you need measure what comes out of the old parts before throwing it away, and put 1/2 that amount of new oil in the compressor and the other 1/2 in the accumulator.
