what's nascar nations thoughts on the tragic off road truck accident?

there’s news about an off road racing truck series that went wrong. the truck plowed into the spectators and killed eight of them. what’s nascar nations thoughts about that? it’s been on the news most all day yesterday, and again this morning. i even saw it on the Univision Spanish channel.

aside from the obvious, i find it really strange that they don`t have on site medical facilities, that may have saved additional lives. instead as i heard it off duty police and fire fighters did the best they could. and it took 30 min. for choppers to arrive to air lift people to hospitals.
they should have concrete barriers for the people to stand behind and not close to the race area

Events like that people ought to know better than to be that close to the road side.

One thing that is for sure, if there is an opportunity for someone to do something stupid, they will do it ,so any sanctioning party or track that can not supply adequate security and safety precautions at an event, should not be allowed to operate.
I don’t think you can always just blame the people who stand too close- when you offer no safety measures! Maybe they were not aware how dangerous this was(like their first time )or they didn’t know how fast the people were going to drive? If you clearly mark the danger than I think that would be different but they did not!
Why couldn’t the promoters of this event rope off the areas so spectators would have to stand at least 100 feet away?
It is reported the permit for the event listed for the drivers to go 15 miles an hour- why was he driving so fast and reckless?
I think it’s a horrible tragedy and I am praying for the survivors and the families of those that weren’t so lucky. Very, very sad.
It’s tragic, but I don’t understand why those people were standing so close to the course. On Fox they were saying that the organizers try to keep the spectators about 100 feet away from the track, but they don’t have the security to enforce that, so the fans were just standing where they shouldn’t have been. I have to agree with Matt here, and say that the reason for this tragedy is the fault of the fans. Unfortunately, in this day and age, the driver will probably be sued for wrongful death damages, even though the spectators are the ones to blame.
That’s what happens when you stand next to the course of an off-road race! I don’t know why people are making such a big deal about it. Yeah it’s a horrible loss, but that’s why you stand stand so close to the track! There’s no one else to blame but the people who died and were injured. If the guy just lost control and there were no people nearby, everything would be fine. These kinds of things happen.
I don’t know but I guess i’ve been to so many races that you learn " Never stand on the out side of a turn or at the bottom of a jump. Some people just have no common sense and I think there was probably alcohol involved. Damn shame.
I heard about that. It’s just really unfortunate, and hopefully it will result in advances towards making the events safer for off road racing spectators. It’s just terrible that it took something like this for that to happen though. I mean, I heard that there was no barrier whatsoever, and that the fans, if they were bold enough, would go up and touch the jump. You hate to say that they deserved it, because no one deserves to go that way, but they should have known the risks of watching from that area. I heard that the driver had to be taken away because people were throwing rocks at him. That’s not his fault, there shouldn’t have been people there.
I’m just glad that NASCAR has made advances in safety with the HANS device, the SAFER Barrier, the COT, the catchfences, and many other things to ensure that drivers and fans alike are safe.
